Undercover firearms police..…
20 April 2010
W17 recently arranged an event where a member of the Royal family attended. Now, that in itself is quite something special, but have you ever considered how much more planning is involved than normal?
Its not just planning the venue layout, the catering and refreshments and the promotion of the event any more, its dealing with the potential risks of having someone so important attend your event and the ‘parties’ involved in making the event a success.
So, after initial meetings with various people, including the Queens representative in that county the Lord Lieutenant, meeting with Personal Protection Officers and firearms people, it turned the event into something much more. As with any event you need to cover any associated risks involved, but planning for protestors, emergency access routes and the security of the site make for some interesting meetings.
So if you ever want to invite a ‘Royal’ to your event, consider the following points:-
• Your exact timings for the event
• Who should be the key people to meet and greet?
• Who is the Queens representative, after all it’ll be there event not yours?
• Is the site secure?
• The risks associated with unwanted guests
• Where cars will park in closeness to the Royal, engines running at all times
• and lastly, suitable respite room including facilities!
Failing all the above, make life a little easier and call the experts in so you’re not left running ragged. Free yourself up to enjoy the event, it’ll be quite an experience!
