Wheres my parachute!!

02 February 2009

The latest craze sweeping the corporate hospitality sector is indoor SKY DIVING. Bodyflying is the new sport of flying indoors on a column of air, accurately simulating skydiving whilst being only a few feet above the ground and best of all anyone can do it as no experience is necessary. A person can learn to control their body in a vertical stream of air which supports their bodyweight, allowing them to navigate the air at any angle or fashion; you literally learn to fly!

As safety is of the utmost importance every new flyer must go to a briefing session. You simulate the flight position on a table lying on your stomach with your legs bent and your arms raised out in front of you. Then it’s off to be dressed in the flight clothing. As for a parachute, you don’t need one as safety netting is in place.

You get kitted out in a flight suit with ear plugs, goggles and a helmet then enter the airlock chamber before waiting your turn to enter the wind tunnel. Now ordinarily this might sound quite daunting, but rest assured a qualified instructor will take hold of you and guide you into the tunnel. He won’t let go of you unless he feels you are ok on your own, but he’s only ever inches away from your side.

Initially you will only fly for a couple of minutes, which, doesn’t sound much, but the force of the wind in the tunnel pushing you up is at such a pressure that a couple of minutes is quite exhausting. The flying chamber is 26 feet in height and 16 feet in diameter and a massive fan being driven by a 4,000 h.p motor supplies the wind, giving unrivalled air quality, power and space to fly.

For those of you looking to entertain your staff and clients I can’t think of a more memorable way to do so. It will be an extremely exhilarating occasion.
